Some Endings are Just Turns

We are having a lot of "lasts" this month.

C's last few days of elementary school.

C's last "field day".

C's last elementary school musical, her last gym class, her last music lesson, her last days in the building.

Our last time at a 5th-grade recognition ceremony.

Our last time walking our kid to a bus stop for elementary school.

With the big kids, when they finished the elementary school - we weren't really finished, because there was still C going through it.

But now - after 10 years, our family is actually completely done with elementary school.

A lot of the teachers that the kids have had over the years are retiring or have already retired. The school principal that has been a part of their lives for so many years is retiring.

And I am mostly happy. Because this is not an ending. I mean it kind of is - the end of the elementary school era. But it is also a turning-the-corner situation: a turn where we can't see what's coming until after we've leaned into the turn. I think C is going to handle this "turn" with curiosity and cautious optimism. I am so excited for her.

But also a little bit teary-eyed.

But mostly excited.

  1. Awww, an end of an era...For us, it's preschool. No more preschool. Next year R is in kindergarten, L is in 2nd grade. So, next year is middle school for C? Congratulations!

    1. Kindergarten - that's a huge step! How very exciting :) Is it a full-day Kindergarten or half-day? (in our school district, we only have half-day option in public schools, which is a giant pain).

Yep - C is going to be in middle school... My brain refuses to believe it...
